The Bob Allen Tactical Toc Shooting Mat is a shooting rest.
A rest takes the rifle's weight and the shooter's wobble out of the equation, so what is left on paper is closer to what the rifle and the ammunition actually do.
A front rest and rear bag work as a pair: the front carries the forend, the rear supports the buttstock and gives fine elevation as it is squeezed. A one-piece rest does both at a fixed spacing.
How the rifle sits in the rest has to be repeatable. Fore-end shape, how far forward it rides and how the recoil is allowed to track all change point of impact, which is why groups shot off an unfamiliar rest often disappoint until the setup settles.
