The Savage Axis 2 XP is a bolt action in .400 Legend with a 20" barrel, a 1:16 twist and 4-round capacity.
This barrel length is a common compromise: enough to develop most of the cartridge's velocity while staying manageable to carry. Twist rate determines which bullet weights stabilize: a faster twist favors heavier, longer projectiles. It ships without iron sights, so budget for an optic, rings and a base if you do not already have them.
The .400 Legend is commonly chosen for deer hunting in straight-wall cartridge states. These exist to satisfy regulations that prohibit bottleneck rifle cartridges for deer.
