Description
The Caldwell AR500 is a shooting target.
A steel target reacts and resets itself, which is why it suits practice at speed – the hit is audible and visible without walking downrange.
AR500 and AR550 name the steel's hardness. Harder plate resists cratering better, which is what keeps a target safe over time – but hardness does not raise the velocity limit or shorten the minimum distance.
STEEL HAS RULES, and they are not optional. Keep to the maker's minimum distance – commonly 10 yards for pistol and 100 yards for rifle – because fragments come back off the plate. Stay under the maker's velocity limit. Never shoot steel with steel-core, armour-piercing or green-tip ammunition, and retire any plate that has cratered, pitted or cupped: a damaged face throws splatter in directions a flat one does not. Angle plates slightly downward so fragments go into the ground.
Eye protection is the minimum for everyone on the line, shooters and spectators alike.
