The Mid-Range Gas Gun came out of the Very Long-Range Semi-Automatic Sniper System programme. Adopted by U.S. SOCOM as the Geissele MK1 MOD0 (MRGG-S), the MRGG MK1 is the commercial version of that rifle.
It combines Geissele’s patented Phased Array with their Tri-Port gas system, an in-house match grade cold hammer forged barrel, and fully ambidextrous controls. It is hand assembled, with a proprietary bolt group and a tuned buffer system intended to cut felt recoil and shorten the time to a follow-up shot.
The receiver set is aluminium billet with a steel-reinforced cam race and a dust-cover-actuated bolt catch with a rearward release button. The trigger is the MRGG SSA-E two-stage, and the bolt carrier group is the Nanoweapon-coated Reliability Enhanced BCG with a forged Carpenter 158+ bolt.
Nanoweapon, also known as Picatinny DSL, is a durable solid lubricant coating developed by ARDEC and available exclusively from Geissele. It is applied at low temperature so the part’s metallurgy is unaffected, and its surface hardness is roughly that of synthetic diamond – harder than sand, which is what lets it shed carbon and run with less lubrication.

A note on finish. Geissele use Type 3 Hardcoat Anodize, which means there is no exact color matching between parts and some shade variation is normal. Two parts bought at different times can differ slightly. More on anodize shade variation and finish methods. Desert Dirt Color varies more than most finishes — Geissele explain DDC here.
Geissele builds to order rather than holding reseller stock.
