Description
The Athlon Midas HMR 30MM is a 2.5-15x riflescope with a 50mm objective on a 30mm tube. The reticle is in the second focal plane.
A top end in this range is enough to place a shot at distance while the bottom end stays usable up close. It is the common compromise for a rifle expected to do more than one job.
Second focal plane: the reticle stays the same visual size at every magnification, which keeps it easy to see at low power. Its subtensions are only correct at one magnification, usually the maximum, so holds taken at another power have to be adjusted.
A 30mm tube generally allows more internal elevation adjustment than a 1 inch tube, which matters when dialling for distance. Rings or a mount must be 30mm – ring diameter is not adjustable and a different size will not clamp.
The 50mm objective sets how much light the scope can gather and how tall the rings need to be to clear the bell.
Eye relief is listed at 3.97'' – the distance the eye sits behind the ocular to see the full picture, which is what has to be respected when positioning the scope in the rings.
