Description
The CRKT 5317 Pilar Iii features a 2.97" 8Cr13MoV stainless blade, clip point, plain edge, G-10 handle, black finish.
The blade is 8Cr13MoV SS, a budget-friendly Chinese stainless that sharpens easily and resists rust well, though it needs touching up more often than premium steels. G-10 is a fiberglass laminate: light, dimensionally stable, and grippy even wet.
Around three inches is the everyday carry sweet spot – long enough for boxes, cord, food prep and general utility, short enough to disappear in a pocket.
Carry laws are set locally as well as by state, and a 2.97" blade is legal to carry in many places and not in others – check your state and city rules before you carry it. Knives ship directly to you with no FFL transfer and no background check, unlike a firearm. Keep the blade dry and the pivot clean, and touch the edge up on a strop or fine stone before it gets properly dull – it is far less work than bringing back a blunt edge.
The Pilar III with D2 Blade Steel transforms the minimalists sailor knife into a distinctly urban everyday carry folder while keeping the spirit of the classic and the epic tale behind its name. It's low profile and understated when tucked away and carefully designed to punch above its weight when in use. The substantial 2.97" spear point blade is crafted of strong D2 steel that keeps its edge and features a resilient satin finish. The grippy G10 handle thrives throughout years of use and a thumb slot opening mechanism deploys the blade and the IKBS ball bearing pivot system makes for a super smooth rotation.
