The Guntec USA Milspec AR15 Buffer is a buffer system component, mil-spec diameter.
The buffer and spring absorb the bolt carrier at the back of its travel and drive it forward again. Together they set how the rifle cycles.
Mil-spec and commercial receiver extensions are different diameters – about 1.148" against 1.170" at the threads – and a stock cut for one will not fit the other. Check which your stock is before ordering.
Buffer weight is a tuning part: a heavier buffer slows the carrier, which is how an over-gassed rifle – a suppressed one, commonly – is brought back into balance. Too heavy and the rifle short-strokes instead.
Buffer and tube have to match. Carbine, rifle and A5 lengths are different, and the wrong combination will not assemble or will not cycle.
