The Hornady Primer Pocket Reamer is a priming tool.

Priming is seating a new primer in the case's primer pocket. It is a separate operation from the rest of loading and is often done off the press, by feel.

Primers come in sizes – small and large, pistol and rifle, and magnum variants – and the size is set by the case. They are also the most impact-sensitive component on the bench: handle them in the tray they come in, keep them away from heat, and seat them fully but without force.

A primer seated high can slow ignition or, in some actions, be struck before the action is fully closed. Seated to the bottom of the pocket, just below flush, is the standard.
