The Kershaw 1990 Brawler features a 3" 8Cr13MoV stainless blade, clip point, plain edge, black finish.
The blade is 8Cr13MoV SS, a budget-friendly Chinese stainless that sharpens easily and resists rust well, though it needs touching up more often than premium steels. Stainless scales are durable and easy to clean, though heavier than polymer.
Around three inches is the everyday carry sweet spot – long enough for boxes, cord, food prep and general utility, short enough to disappear in a pocket.
Carry laws are set locally as well as by state, and a 3.0" blade is legal to carry in many places and not in others – check your state and city rules before you carry it. Knives ship directly to you with no FFL transfer and no background check, unlike a firearm. Keep the blade dry and the pivot clean, and touch the edge up on a strop or fine stone before it gets properly dull – it is far less work than bringing back a blunt edge.
The Brawler starts with a modified tanto blade a shape often found in tactical and rescue knives that may be required to punch through tough materials. The top of the Brawlers blade has a grind- a swedge, it helps narrow the blade, adding to its piercing power; the straight belly offers excellent cutting capacity, perfect for bearing down on a task and is easy to resharpen. The 8Cr13MoV blade steel offers edge-holding capability, strength and hardness; black-oxide coating adds blade protection.
