Description
The Kershaw 8310 Fringe folder features a 3" 8Cr13MoV stainless blade, clip point, plain edge, carbon fiber handle, black finish.
The blade is 8Cr13MoV SS, a budget-friendly Chinese stainless that sharpens easily and resists rust well, though it needs touching up more often than premium steels. Carbon fiber is the lightest of the common scale materials and very stiff.
Around three inches is the everyday carry sweet spot – long enough for boxes, cord, food prep and general utility, short enough to disappear in a pocket.
Carry laws are set locally as well as by state, and a 3.0" blade is legal to carry in many places and not in others – check your state and city rules before you carry it. Knives ship directly to you with no FFL transfer and no background check, unlike a firearm. Keep the blade dry and the pivot clean, and touch the edge up on a strop or fine stone before it gets properly dull – it is far less work than bringing back a blunt edge.
Carbon fibre is the lightest of the common scale materials and very stiff. The Kershaw Fringe has a gray titanium carbo-nitride coating on both blade and handle, as well as front carbon-fiber insert. To ensure a comfortable carry, Kershaw has thinned the back handle, making the Fringe lighter than you'd expect for an all-steel pocketknife. It has a deep-carry clip that enables you to carry it securely in the pocket, yet access is easy when you need it. The blade opens quickly and easily with SpeedSafe assisted opening and the flipper or built-in thumb stud. The blade locks securely in place during use thanks to a sturdy frame lock.
