The Magpul Industries MOE SL is a handguard, M-LOK.
The handguard covers the barrel and gas system and carries whatever the support hand and the accessories need to hold onto.
A free-float handguard mounts to the barrel nut and touches the barrel nowhere else, so pressure from a sling or a bipod is not transferred into the barrel.
Length has to suit the gas system – the handguard must clear the gas block – and most makers supply their own barrel nut, so it is not always a straight swap between brands.
