The OPTIMAX TECHNOLOGY LLC Pard Ocelot 640 is a thermal sight.
A thermal sight forms its picture from heat rather than light, so it works in total darkness and sees through smoke, dust and light vegetation. It is not affected by ambient light at all.
Two numbers describe the sensor: its resolution in pixels and its refresh rate in hertz. Higher resolution puts more detail in the same field of view; a higher refresh rate keeps a moving target smoother. The lens focal length sets magnification, and thermal optics have far less usable digital zoom than the numbers suggest, because the sensor supplies the detail, not the zoom.
Thermal and night vision devices are export-controlled under US law. They are sold freely within the United States and may not leave it – that includes carrying one abroad on a hunting trip. Check current rules before travelling with it.
