The Q LLC Whistle Tip is a blast mitigation device.
A blast mitigation device points the muzzle blast forward, away from the shooter and from anyone standing alongside. That is the opposite trade to a brake: a brake vents gas sideways to cut recoil, and the price of that is noise and concussion thrown back at you. This gives the recoil reduction up to buy a gun that is far more pleasant to be next to – which is why they are common on short barrels and indoors.
A muzzle brake redirects escaping gas sideways and rearwards to push back against recoil and muzzle rise. The gas it redirects has to go somewhere, so a brake makes the rifle louder and sharper for anyone standing beside it.
A muzzle device fitted to bring a short barrel up to the legal 16 inches only counts if it is permanently attached – pinned and welded, or silver-soldered. Simply screwing one on does not change the barrel's measured length.
This is a part, not a regulated item. Mounts, pistons, caps and muzzle devices are not NFA-controlled and ship directly to your address – the suppressor itself is the registered item.
