Description
The Ruger / Sturm, Ruger & Co. American is a bolt action in .243 Winchester with a 20" barrel, a 1:9 twist and 3-round capacity.
This barrel length is a common compromise: enough to develop most of the cartridge's velocity while staying manageable to carry. That is the standard twist for this cartridge, and it stabilizes the bullet weights most factory ammunition is loaded with. It comes picatinny scope base installed, so it is ready to take an optic without extra machining.
The .243 Winchester is commonly chosen for deer and varmints. A common choice for younger or recoil-sensitive shooters that still handles deer-sized game.
