J.P. Sauer & Sohn have been building hunting rifles for more than 270 years, and the 505 is the current expression of that line. It is built around a steel receiver with an integrated saddle mount, so a scope mounts directly to the receiver and Sauer state a 100% return to zero when it is taken off and refitted.
The action cocks manually rather than by the safety catch, which means the rifle can be carried with the striker down and brought to ready silently. The Quattro trigger is adjustable across four pull weights – 350, 750, 1000 and 1250 grams – and a magazine safety Sauer call Safe Maglock prevents the magazine dropping unintentionally. The barrel is cold hammer forged.
The 505 is a modular system: the barrel changes, and so does the stock, so one receiver covers a range of calibers rather than committing you to the one you buy today.
This one is chambered in .30-06 Springfield with a 22" barrel and a capacity of 3 rounds plus one chambered. This barrel length is a common compromise: enough to develop most of the cartridge's velocity while staying manageable to carry.
This is the Lux Full Size configuration: matte blued on both barrel and receiver, a threaded muzzle, and a fixed stock in grade 5 wood – not the Iconic Thumbhole stock Sauer use in most of their 505 photography. A threaded muzzle takes a brake or a suppressor; a suppressor is a separate NFA purchase with its own Form 4 and its own approval wait.
