Description
The Savage 93 is a bolt action rifle in .17 HMR with a 21" barrel, a 1:9 twist and 5-round capacity.
This is a left-hand action: the bolt handle and ejection port are on the left side, laid out for a left-handed shooter. This is a conventional rimfire barrel length. Rimfire powder is fully burnt well before the muzzle, so extra length adds sight radius and weight rather than velocity. That is the standard twist for this cartridge, and it stabilizes the bullet weights most factory ammunition is loaded with. It ships without iron sights, so plan on an optic and a way to mount it: a red dot or holographic sits on a rail, a scope needs rings and a base, and a rifle with neither needs a mount first.
The .17 HMR is commonly chosen for small game and varmints at extended range. It carries a rimfire out to roughly 200 yards with a very flat trajectory, though the light bullet is easily pushed by wind.
