The Savage Axis XP is a bolt action in .308 / 7.62 NATO with a 20" barrel and 4-round capacity plus one chambered.

This barrel length is a common compromise: enough to develop most of the cartridge's velocity while staying manageable to carry. It ships without iron sights, so budget for an optic, rings and a base if you do not already have them.

The .308 is commonly chosen for hunting, target shooting and general use. Probably the most versatile centerfire cartridge available – ammunition is everywhere, and it handles most North American game.
