The Spyderco Amalgam features a 3.80" CPM S30V stainless blade, clip point, plain edge, textured G-10 handle, black finish.
The blade is CPM S30V SS, an American powder-metallurgy stainless that offers excellent edge retention and toughness, at the cost of more effort to resharpen. G-10 is a fiberglass laminate: light, dimensionally stable, and grippy even wet.
A blade in this range handles heavier everyday tasks and light outdoor work while still carrying comfortably clipped in a pocket.
Carry laws are set locally as well as by state, and a 3.8" blade is legal to carry in many places and not in others – check your state and city rules before you carry it. Knives ship directly to you with no FFL transfer and no background check, unlike a firearm. Keep the blade dry and the pivot clean, and touch the edge up on a strop or fine stone before it gets properly dull – it is far less work than bringing back a blunt edge.
Tthe Amalgam combines all the advantages of Spydercos Compression Lock mechanism, a fully accessible Trademark Round Hole and a flipper opener into one synergistic package. The PlainEdge blade is full-flat ground for exceptional edge geometry and showcases a beautiful satin finish. It also rides on special low-friction ball-bearing washers that give it a smooth action and help ensure swift, positive, one-handed opening with either its index-finger flipper or its round hole. The handle features skeletonized stainless steel liners nested into textured carbon fiber/G-10 laminate scales. This keeps the ergonomic handle slim and pocket friendly and complements its open-backed construction to minimize the knifes overall weight and accentuate its balance. A four-position clip and lined lanyard hole support all possible carry preferences and allow the Amalgam to be brought into action quickly and positively with either hand.
