Description
The STERN DEFENSE 45 ACP is a rifle barrel in .45 ACP, 16.10" long.
The rifling twist is 1:16 – one full turn of the bullet in 16 inches of barrel. Twist rate decides which bullet weights a barrel can stabilise: a faster twist (a smaller number) handles longer, heavier bullets, a slower one suits lighter ones. It is cut into the barrel and cannot be changed.
It is chambered in .45 ACP. Chamber and bore have to match the ammunition exactly – a barrel is not adaptable to another cartridge.
Fitting a barrel is gunsmithing on most actions: headspace has to be checked with gauges after installation. An AR-pattern barrel is the usual exception, being a drop-in against a correct bolt.
