S&W MP1522 22LR 16B 25R OR RD

Description

The Smith & Wesson / S&W M&P 15 Sport is a semi-auto rifle in .22 LR with a 16.5" barrel, a 1:15 twist and 25-round capacity.

Rimfire velocity peaks in the high teens of barrel length, so a barrel this short gives up very little and keeps the rifle light and quick to handle. That is the standard twist for this cartridge, and it stabilizes the bullet weights most factory ammunition is loaded with. It ships without iron sights, so budget for an optic, rings and a base if you do not already have them.

The .22 LR is commonly chosen for small game, training and high-volume practice. Ammunition is cheap enough to shoot all day, which is why it remains the standard first rifle and the standard practice rifle.
