The TacFire 45 AR PST GLK is a bolt carrier group.
The bolt carrier group is the whole moving assembly – carrier, bolt, firing pin, cam pin and extractor. It locks the cartridge in, holds it against firing pressure, then unlocks, extracts and re-cocks as it travels back.
It has to match the frame size and the cartridge family. AR-15 and AR-10 carriers are different lengths and are not interchangeable, and a pistol-calibre carrier is a different design again: those actions are blowback, so the carrier is heavy by deliberate design and is held shut by its own mass rather than by a locked bolt.
Finish is about maintenance rather than performance. Phosphate, nitride and nickel-boron all work; the slicker coatings are easier to wipe clean and run with less lubricant, which matters most on a suppressed or a hard-used rifle.
