Description
The Williams Gun Sight High Speed Tap is a tap and drill set.
6-48 and 8-40 are the scope-mounting thread standards – 6-48 is the long-standing default on most receivers, and 8-40 is the larger, stronger option used where recoil has stripped a 6-48 or where a heavy optic needs more thread.
Drilling and tapping a receiver is PERMANENT and unforgiving: it has to be square to the bore and correctly spaced, and it removes metal from a pressure-bearing part. If you have not done it before, this is the job to hand to a gunsmith – a crooked base cannot be shimmed straight and a stripped hole in a receiver is a repair, not an adjustment.
Check what your receiver already uses before ordering. Mixing 6-48 and 8-40 hardware in one base is a common and expensive mistake.
This is a tool, not a firearm or a firearm part, and ships directly to your address.
