Description
The Backcountry Capra is Weatherby's lightweight mountain rifle. It uses the Mark V 6-lug short action machined from titanium, which Weatherby describe as making it one of the lightest production rifles ever offered.
The thin-contour barrel is double-spiral fluted, forming a double helix. Fluting removes material while retaining more stiffness than a plain barrel turned to the same weight, which is the reason the pattern is used. Weatherby rate the rifle sub-MOA. The stock is a modified Peak 44 Blacktooth.
This one is chambered in .22 Creedmoor with a 17" barrel, a 1:8 twist and a capacity of 2 rounds plus one chambered. This barrel length is a common compromise: enough to develop most of the cartridge's velocity while staying manageable to carry. Twist rate determines which bullet weights stabilize: a faster twist favors heavier, longer projectiles.
The barrel length stated is the barrel itself – the Accubrake adds roughly 2" to the overall length.
